I appreciate his highness visiting us at West - Catholic game tonight. I'll have to apologize to him for the display of baseball he saw.

West 12 - Catholic 11 in 9 innings.
For those of you looking for a classic DII - AAA matchup, this wasn't it. I don't have the benefit of a scorebook, and I was unable to watch the entire game, so forgive me if I miss some of the facts.

Catholic came in with the bats swinging and offered no respect to West starter Aaron Hookman. Couple the Catholic hits with a few defensive miscues, and Catholic is sitting pretty with a 6-2 lead at one point in the game. Snyder made a rare relief appearance, pitching for 2 innings. 2 more runs scored, both unearned. However, while Snyder was still pitcher of record West bounced back to an 11-8 lead. Michalik entered as pitcher in the 6th and wriggled out of a jam. However, in the 7th the strikezone became tight after an error allowed the first batter to reach. To make a long story short, Catholic ties the game up. The game goes to the 9th. Chase Powell doubles and Cameron Doody doubles him in for the win. I wasn't there to see it, but learned that Powell's double should have been ruled a foul ball. As I've said before, West has had its share of bad breaks, so I'll take the good one.

Soph Chris Griswold had a gutty outing for Catholic before finally being chased in the 5th. He showed a good curve ball which had the West batters fooled for much of the game.

I can only hope West was looking ahead to Maryville. This type of effort tomorrow will result in a 5 inning game.
