(New to the site, trying not to recover old ground but…..)

My son is a junior who is getting some D1 letters (unsolicited) and would be considered (without boring everyone here with details) a college prospect. Here are my steps so far. What am I doing right, what am I missing on? I need your advice.

- Sent target schools at the D1 and D2 levels a bio of his accomplishments along with contact info (via letter and email) – got lots of thank you’s and camp invites

- Linked and included my son’s Perfect Game profile to all coaches on that target list.

- Let HS coach know which schools we’ve reached out to and which schools (unsolicited) have reached out to us

- Beginning to get a video ready to forward to target schools

- Sent him to two college camps so far. (hard to get to many more because of limited time and they often conflict with one another)

- Had him play an aggressive travel AAU schedule last summer and fall and attend two PG showcase events

Some of the things that are talked about that I am in the dark about are professional workouts and references from pro scouts.

I also have questions as to whether he should play on a good legion team or play for a travel AAU team this summer. Which team will get the right college guys looking at him (AAU seems to get coaches looking at the national superstuds and pitchers more than northeast position players.)

My son has all the requisite skills – strong arm, bat speed, power, stats etc……but I’m worried that he’s gonna get overlooked.

What step do I need to take, which steps should I be avoiding or elimintating?

Help!

TRhit is going to get a lot of PMs, I'm afraid. I also have questions about the summer league issues. Is it as important to find a summer team of quality if my son plays in an excellent regular season league? Most of the colleges he's interested in are within driving distance of where he attends high school. So I think his exposure will be adequate. But I'd sure hate to be missing the boat this summer if he sticks with his high school summer team.
Newcomer,

I referenced TR specifically because he operates in the NE and is very familiar with the various programs in that area.

I see that your son is a Junior this year. Has he made any contact with any of the schools you mention that he is interested in? Have any of those schools expressed any interest in your son via regular letters, etc? If at this point you are not receiving any communications from schools that you are interested in, then you need to become more proactive in the process.

Keep in mind that as far as regular season activities, most colleges are in the midst of their season as well and do not have the time to scout players that they will have during the summer period. You might want to ask some questions in the California forum to find out more about relative strengths and weaknesses of the options available to you.
Thanks for your input. Yes, several of the schools which he is interested in have made solid contacts via mail. He's attended camps at the schools which offer them and has met the coaches during the camps. He's currently trying to get in contact with a couple of summer league teams in our area to see what is available.
