It has been a while since I have posted but I wanted to remind all parents that there is life after baseball. Son is a college sophomore who decided not to play college ball even though he was offered by quite a few colleges. He decided to concentrate on his education. He is doing very well, carrying a 3.8 in Engineering, working 40+ hours a week as a sugarcane farmer and is also a volunteer firemen. I could not be more proud of him. Although I miss baseball, I do not miss the stress, haha. Hope everyone is well and I also hope everyone has a blessed Christmas.

Amen on life after baseball! However baseball NEVER ends. The ball my son dropped and the cleats he hung up a few years back have been picked up by another player and other parents to provide that same enjoyment for them. The "active participation" phase is without doubt the peak of the game for players and parents but "baseball" provided more than just 9 innings of competition for me. The MANY hours I spent over the last 10 years on the HSBBW exchanging information, sharing highs and lows and meeting friends has been VERY rewarding to me.
Thanks HSBBW,
Fungo
We have stared "the end" right down the gun barrel a couple of times and are there again. Each time it happens, there is less anxiety, less trepidation, more acknowledgement of the inevitable and acceptance.

For Junior it truly has become, "I'm responsible for the effort, not the result" type of acceptance.

GW, I laughed pretty good at that photo. PB ever bean ya with her purse?
Sounds like you raised a great kid. And in the end that's all that matters. And I'd be willing to bet that he pays it (baseball) forward to the next generation.

Louisiana, thanks for a great post. It is posts like yours that show other parents of younger players that life goes on. Your son sounds like a well rounded and fine young man who is already a success in life, congratulations.

When my own called a few years ago to tell me he was hanging up his spikes, I asked him if he was sure, and his reply was "Dad, I'm going fishing". Right then, I knew the timing was right, and that all would be fine. Mine has never looked back.
