I have been coming to this site for 5-6 years.....reading mostly....posting seldom.   Today, my son's senior season came to an end and it's all over.   Pitched a great game....allowing 2 hits over 6 1/3 and left in the bottom 7th with a 2-1 lead and a runner on first.  Unfortunately, the bullpen couldn't hold the lead.....and, in fact, ended up walking in the winning run in that same inning.  Just like that....it was over.

Haven't seen my kid cry over a baseball game since he was little......but today.....he cried like he was 7 or 8 with his face buried in my shoulder.....and then walked slowly to the bus.

So...why is this in the recruiting forum.   Well....my advice for those with kids that are in high school and going through the process....don't forget to enjoy the moment because it goes too damn fast.  And, once it is gone, it is gone.   Like most of you....I have obsessed over the process....why not more interest?  why this?  why that?   In the end, I believe it will work out as it is supposed to work out.   But, while you grind and obsess over where your kid will play college ball.....don't forget to enjoy the high school years.

For me, it just ended today.....and I already miss it!

It was a few years ago, but I remember my son's final HS game. State quarterfinals (1st time the team had gone that far ever) leading 3-2 after 6 1/2 innings after trailing most of the game 2-0.  Coach pulled the ace out (had thrown 127 pitches and had been drafted by the Rays in the 6th round that very day).  Reliever struck the 1st one out, then walked then next one.  Next batter hits a dying liner down the RF line.  Outfielder tries to dive for it and just misses.  Runner on 1st digging hard around the bases, relay is coming, and the runner just beats the tag at the plate. Tied.  Next batter hits a blooper over SS - game over.  They had been only two outs away from going to the final four.

I remember waiting for our son.  As usual he was the last one out of the dugout.  Hugged his friends, his mom and finally me.  Great big bear hug and he wouldn't let go.  Could hear him sobbing gently.  Told him I was proud of him and the team and reminded him he was going on (had committed to a JuCo the month before).

Yeah, I agree.  Enjoy the moment whether they are going on to the next level or not.

My son has his Senior year in college left. He is playing 6 hours away, so I will not get up to see his team play much.

Where did the time go? I truly enjoyed watching him play. Other son will be a Senior in HS this year. He wrestles and does not want to wrestle in college. So that will be over before I know it as well.

I am going to wring aas much as I cal out of these two last seasons.

My younger, just graduated HS, son wrestled in HS as well and also does not want to wrestle in college.  He had been doing it since he was in 5th grade.  I miss it already.  I find myself watching some college wrestling on TV here and there, wishing it didn't have to end.  Time does fly by.  I'm glad I took so many videos of him, I'll be able to watch it forever.

Not looking forward to the day my upcoming junior in college son finishes with baseball.  I can see it coming.  Can't believe he's a junior already.  I'm going to have to "baseball up" the next two years and get everything I can out of it.

When I finished my senior year I sat in the dugout and cracked some tears. It wasn't because we lost. It was because I knew the game was over for me. I knew some great friendships would fall by the wayside over time. They certainly wouldn't be day to day friendships anymore. In the locker room I just sat there. I couldn't take off my uniform. I knew even if I played in an adult league (I didn't) no uniform would ever mean as much to my life as the one I couldn't take off. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was thirty-seven years ago.
