I assume they ar at JR snce the were at Cosby last time? Hoping to make it again!

I guess JR has the advantge of being at home this time. Both will probably use diffrent pitchers.

Alot of assumptions here but....Someone was telling me the other day if JR wins today and both teams win remaining district games they will be "co-district champions" - then they would have an additional third meeting to determine who gets the automatic bye for the Regionals.

They would then be seeded #1 and #2 for the District tourament on opposite sides of the bracket meaning they could meet a fourth time in that tournament.

Seems kind of crazy to me.
Fenway....dont think JR's pitching was a factor in last game I saw....the guy they threw was pretty much unhittable until the sixth when he gave up a walk and a single - at that point hey had their #1 guy lose in the bullpen but elected to not bring him in. They were about out of the inning when an overthrow to first allowed winning runs to score.

Bigger story in that game may be a team that was touted as having scored over 10 runs a game only scored two.

After that one, head to Atlee and catch Hanover @ Atlee at 7:00 in what should also be a great game.

Or, hustle to Tucker for the game with visiting Deep Run. (Wish that game were at 7:00, but the paper says it's at 6:00, which means you'd probably miss some innings if you tried to do both. But at least it's possible to get to Tucker from James River in maybe 25 minutes.)
Cosby beat James River, 7-5, in 8 innings. A spectacular, nip-and-tuck game, but once again it was Cosby that was able to squeeze out the last two runs to win it.

Cosby broke on top in the 1st. After Nate Kirby K'ed the first two batters, Luke Lowery lined a double down the RF line, then scored when Tim Perry drove a grounder up the middle for an RBI single. Cosby made it 2-0 in the 2nd when someone (Carpenter?) singled, moved to 2nd on a wild pitch, got to third somehow, then scored on a 2-strike squeeze play as Cosby pulled out all the stops. After a walk on a very close call on a 3-2 pitch, Christian Hamlett punished a belt-high heater waaayy into the trees in left to make it 4-0.

Bottom of 2, Michael Trentham got JR on the board with a solo HR to CF that just barely got over the CF's glove. Kirby settled in for the next 4 innings, especially after he found his hard breaking knuckle curve to keep Cosby off his fastball more.

Collin Lawless doubled, and his courtesy runner scored on an RBI ground out by Ricky Castro, to make it 4-2. After Kirby left due to pitch count, Kit Scheetz got 2 quick outs in the top of the 7th but then surrended a second line shot HR to left by Hamlett. That seemed to put the game away -- but not so fast.

Lawless singled leading off the bottom of the 7th. After a force out, Jack Roberts lined a HR to LF to make it 5-4. Nate Parnell singled, then moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. Travis McQueen, who pitched a great game up to that point, got a pop out, then got to 2-2 on Casey Jones, who fouled off 3 pitches, worked the count to 3-2, and finally lined a clean hit to plate Parnell with the tying run. Michael Carpenter came on to get the third out and it was on to the 8th inning.

Scheetz got Lowery swinging at a 57' curve ball, but the wild pitch allowed Lowery to reach. The next pitch was an inside fastball that grazed Perry's shirt to put JR in hot water. Birnbaum sacrified the runners up, and JR then intentionally walked the next batter to load them up. Carpenter grounded sharply towards first, but got it just barely beyond the reach of the first baseman, so that instead of an inning-ending DP, it was a 2-RBI double.

Scheetz escaped from there but JR could not rally a second time. Lawless drew a 2-out walk and Castro had a good swing to bid for a game tier, but the ball fell a good 40' short as the RF caught it to end it.
I don't know how many games are left, but if it's not official yet, then unofficially Cosby has clinched the Dominion District regular season title. They will get to the regional tourney irrespective of the outcome of the district tourney.

James River will almost certainly get the second bye in the district tourney. If Cosby wins its semifinal game, then one win, against a team that presumably would have already used its top pitcher, would let James River also advance to the regional tourney. But if Cosby loses, JR will have to win the tourney title to advance.

Right now I would say these are two extremely matched teams. Cosby may have a very slight edge when it comes to having a few more seniors to lead the team.

As has so often been the case since Cosby opened in 2007, they just don't give anyone anything in a close game. They always seem to stop one run here and get one run there to pull out the W. That is the mark of a championship team, and that makes them a good bet to go far come playoff time in 2 weeks.
