I posted this in the showcase forum and have not received any responses, so I thought I would try this forum as I have to make a decision soon.

"My 07 son was invited to a PG underclass showcase in Jan. He has not showcased previously. He is currently doing conditioning, some BP and Throwing with his HS. They are also involved in a winter league, but I am not sure how long the weather will hold out.

My questions are: Do the evaluators take into consideration that a Jan. showcase is out of season? Is it a mistake to go to a showcase if you are not game ready (have not played highly competive baseball for a couple of months)?"

Thanks

Doer..

Hi! Can't think that PG wouldn't take the season into account...Plus there is over a month to prepare...perhaps more importantly a good scout can see through the offseason rust...And having as timetable is often a great motivator....gets him ready for the season early...Also a great time to get your son on the radar prior to the baseball season.

IMO/in our experience, a great deal of the showcase process is not necessarily how a player performs on that specific day as much as it is how he moves, how he runs, how he throws, how he approachs his at bats, his speed, how he hustles, his stregnth, his explosion, his size,...For pitchers it is motion, arm angle, pitch selection, velocity....:-). Saw oodles of players last summer have excellent outing at the plate or on the mound, and then get ignored. Saw plenty of players with great skills who did nothing specific at the showcase other than look good and got lots of "love".

With the recent changes in PG - bringing on Blaine Clememns - this is a great place to start, particularly in our/your neck of the woods.

I say go for it! Cool
