Or maybe it could just be that someone with a very big mouth got a little bit of what he deserved.

I don't know where this idea comes from that because you buy a ticket you have a license to unload bile at the top of your lungs for the next 4 hours.

Romero needs to learn to turn a deaf ear to this stuff, and he did bring it on himself after all. I don't condone what he did.

But I don't see some jerky guy in the stands as a victim.
Players should have thicker skins then that.
They should not allow a fan to bother them, Just ignore them.
Once the fan see's that it bugs you, they will be relentless in there attacks.
Never as a player should you react to a fan when you are being heckled, Thats what they want. A Reaction from you.
Don't give it to them.
Only react to positive remarks. And then just slightly, Tip of the Hat, a Nod, a Smile. Nothing else needs to be said.

while i do agree, turning a deaf ear most every day at work isn't the easiest thing to do. no matter how much your paid.

Your only asking for trouble as a player if you react to fans and there remarks.

To think of it the other way...heckling fans are showing respect for the player. You aren't going to pick on someone's wrongdoings if you don't consistently see them doing right. Heckling fans watch players day in and day out doing things a certain way and admiring that, and when it changes, they let the player hear it. A perfect example would be the Luis Castillo play against the Yankees a few weeks ago. He single handedly lost the game, dropping a popup. The fans have ripped him beyond belief for the last few weeks, including his home fans. In my opinion, Castillo has let it roll off pretty well. Sure, it was a terrible play, but the heckling is going to happen and he knows it. For Romero to react like this is inappropriate and out of character for a Major League Baseball player who should be used to this sort of thing everday.

On another note in a discussion, when does a fan go too far? Ie: a few years ago at Fenway when a fan dumped a beer onto Gary Sheffield playing RF for the Yankees.

The good thing is nothing like that ever happens at Yankee Stadium. They don't just throw beers at fans. They've thrown darts and batteries.
