FALLBROOK – Senior Clark Murphy of Fallbrook High tied a section baseball record yesterday by hitting four home runs during a 9-8 loss to visiting Poway in the North County Tournament.

Murphy, an Aflac All-American who has accepted a scholarship offer to UCLA, went 4-for-4 with seven RBI.
The four homers tied the San Diego Section mark set by Santana's Jim Tatum in 1985.

“Today was a breakout game for (Murphy),” Fallbrook coach Matt Parker said. “He hasn't seen a lot of pitches. He made a couple of adjustments at practice and he's seeing the ball real well.”

Murphy, an outfielder, has six home runs this season. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound left-hander said he decided to change his approach at the plate earlier this week at practice.

“Mainly I focused on quieting my hands,” he said, “centering my head and using all fields.”
