I just heard on the radio that former Prince George baseball/football star John Bivens has left the UVA football team and will now concentrate on baseball, beginning immediately. Bivens at one point in high school had stopped playing football to concentrate on baseball, then towards the end of his HS career, he got back into football and was recruited by UVA. There were high hopes for him, but he's never been able to get his knees healthy enough to be a full contributor, and I don't believe he'd been in a game yet this season. Who knows how rusty he may be, but this could give UVA a pretty physical presence in their lineup that they often lack.

I'm one that thought that Bivens had err'd in choosing football over baseball. Not the greatest HS hitter I've seen but certainly had the talent to do well in college with some additional development. Speed and athleticism he's gots tons of though. I suppose he will be able to play three years of College BB if he red-shirted his freshman year in FB? Or did he not...?

At any rate, to have the chance to get back on the diamond has to be a relief for him. Good kid. Dad was/is in the Army so HOHAAH to him.

Hope to see you all at a field soon looking at our young men playing their first college games of the 09 season.

My son says he's been at it more than he's ever been at it.....in his life. Go Big Blue!

The article in this morning's paper was disheartening. They say his knee functions well enough for a normal person, but not well enough for football.

If that's so, then his baseball future, I would think, would also be in question. I mean, it's not like your knees are any less important in baseball than in football.

I am so glad my son never played football. What an injury factory that game can be.
