Can a juco player play in the fall for one school, finish the semester with less than 12 credit hours, then play for a different juco team in the spring?
There are two scenarios that would allow a player to play without having passed 12 hours in the fall semester 1)If this would be his first season to compete and he had 24 hours accumulated from previous semesters attended. He would have to redshirt his first year for this to happen 2)player took summer hours after graduation from high school that allowed him to get his total number of hours to 12
In that situation I am pretty sure he would have to have 36 hours and a minimum GPA of 1.75. Once you reach your second season it is 12 hours in the previous semester OR 36 overall.
He would have 36 hours going into the spring of his sophomore year and would have better than the minimum gpa. Is it possible to switch then if the fall school says that it is okay even though he did not have 12 hours in his fall semester?
Go to the NJCAA website and look under Todays NJCAA then click on Eligibility Corner. Download the 2010-11 Eligibility Pamphlet and look on Page 3 under semester eligibility. THe answer to your questions are there....
California JCs are not members of NJCAA, so NJCAA rules do not apply to CA JCs. My son transferred from a 4 year school to a CA JC and played the spring semester, the only semester he attended.....DOn't know the actual CA JC rules but I think its pretty easy to switch JC's in CA.
