Are their any rules about needing to transfer in a certain number of credits to be eligable if I were to transfer to a NCAA school in the spring?

WELCOME mdpitcher10,
Glad you found us here on the HSBBW.

I wish I knew the specific answer to your question.
I'm sure there are rules. There are always rules!
( lol )
My best advice at this point would be to contact the admissions office and coaching staff at the NCAA school you are interested in transfering to.

Because you asked about eligibility, am I correct in assuming that you will be trying to walk on a baseball program there?
You can find the rules in the NCAA Transfer Guide, which is available on the NCAA website.

The rules differentiate between transfers who were NCAA qualifiers coming out of high school and those who were not. If you were a qualifier and you want to go NCAA D1, you must:

-- Complete at least one term (that means one semester or one quarter) as a full-time
student at the Juco. Summer school doesn’t count.
-- Earn an average of 12-semester or 12-quarter credit hours for each term you started full-time at the Juco. The credit hours at the Juco must be transferable toward your degree at the four-year school.
-- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Shortstopmom's advice -- "contact the admissions office and coaching staff at the NCAA school you are interested in transfering to" -- is sound. You'll want to be sure that the hours from your Juco will transfer to the NCAA school. Some 4-year colleges will accept hours for certain courses from a Juco that other 4-year colleges will not, so you might have 12 credit hours per semester that will transfer to College "A", but not College "B".

Yes, I will be playin baseball there.

Good to know.

I hope that this new NCAA school provides you not only a baseball opportunity, but a good academic opportunity as well.
And,...hopefully its a little closer to home. Smile

Make sure you check things out with your advisors on both ends though, so that you are eligible and there are no more suprises.

The very best to you!!
Let us know how things go!
mdpitcher10,
Are you considering transferring to a 4 year college so that you can play baseball this spring?

RadioBall has listed most of the requirements for D1 and D2. D3 rules are a little different and basically require that you would have been academically and athletically eligible at the previous school.

However, for D1, this isn't going to work. From the D1 Manual:

"14.5.4.1.1 Baseball and Basketball—Midyear Enrollee. In baseball and basketball, a qualifier who satisfies the provisions of Bylaw 14.5.4.1, but initially enrolls at the certifying institution as a full-time student after the conclusion of the institution’s first term of the academic year, shall not be eligible for competition until the ensuing academic year. "

This is new for 2008 and keeps players from circumventing the one-year residency requirement in 4 to 4 transfers by instead transferring to a JC for the fall term only.

See the various NCAA Division Manuals and read Bylaw 14.5 and especially 14.5.4
