As a NCAA Clearinghouse qualifier, I read in the NCAA transfer guide that only 48 credits are needed to transfer to a Division 1, 4 year program, as well as a 2.0 GPA. My question is, if I were to not get the 60 credits needed to graduate with a degree from the 2 year school, would it hurt my chances to transfer to the D1? Would coaches not want to accept me into their program even if I complete atleast the minimum 48 credits required? How often does it happen where a player transfers with under 60 credits because they were qualifiers out of HS? And, do coaches care at all? Thank You.

My son just went through this; my son is a HS qualifier who just transfered to a D1 with fewer than 60 credits after two years at a JUCO.

First of all, YES - The coaches care. They have to, because NCAA compliance is serious.

The requirement is actually 12 credit hours per semester attended at the JUCO. The key is that those credits have to be transferable to the major into which the student transfers.

The 60 credits come into play for non-qualifiers who completed their Associate degree at the JUCO. But, even with the degree, the 12 credits/per semester rules applies and the credits must transfer into the major at the D1.

I expect that transfering with fewer than 60 credits is common.
