Junior College Divisions - How do they differ?

That's a great question,my son is going to a JC school and it's a divII team he'll be playing on.

Maybe I'll phone the NJCAA for clarification. Odd that it might vary with the state.

I know the D-Is and D-IIs play each other regularly and I see that all JCs in Missouri and Illinois are either D-Is or D-IIs. No D-IIIs

there are D-3 juco's in IL. COD, Harper joliet are d-3 juco's

The main difference is scholarships.
DI JC have can provide full scholarships (room,board books tutuion)
DII cannot provide housing
DIII can provide any athletic aid at all

I think 04and10 meant that DIII canNOT provide any athletic aid.

Things also may vary according to the school and/or conference. In the Jayhawk Conference (Kansas) all of the schools are considered DI for competition purposes. However, the conference imposes DII limits on all scholarships (Tuition is okay, but not room and board.)

You're right I didn't notice that the very northern part of Illinois is in Region 4, while most of the state (the Illinois Sunbelt) is in Region 24.

Seems that D-IIIs, in general, tend to be way up north. Minnesota had a number of them. I guess those are mostly recreational leagues.

Was looking at Florida JC's and they were all I and IIs.

Can a D-I JC pay for off-campus apartment rent since many of them don't have dorms?

They can if they choose to. In states where it is allowed - see above and reference to Jayhawk conference in Kansas.
