Lefty Dad,

Couldn't agree more with what has been posted. Junior recently went to one and it was a great experience. Heard presentations from admissions, the Asst AD, Coaches and current players. Tied it into a campus tour and a chance to observe practice. They also put them through a mini "camp" so they could get a look at them. Total of about 35 kids.

If your son has interest in the school, its a great opportunity to find out coaching philosophies and really get a feel for the campus and baseball program.

Junior Day is by invite.

Thunder11,
Regarding your question, lot depends on how seriously the coach is recruiting your son, if seriously, then he will spend more time than if casually recruiting him. Junior Day is good because of the above mentioned by Laloosh, sometimes you will get to see more and meet more people on a junior day than on an official. Either way, any type of visit should take place if you or they have serious interest, it's a good way to narrow down or widen interest.

Regardless if it is not too costly, both
I thought it might be helpful to relate my son's experience so far.

A local D1 invited him to Junior Day in January. The university is just getting back to D1 level for baseball this season and our assumption was that they were sending this invite out pretty broadly to local players. Son had been to a prospect camp for the college last summer, but a friend of his hadn't and he also got the invite. We did not go, and the report from his friend was that it was not that interesting or useful, with about 50 players in attendance.

A D1 in Texas, on the other hand, has been showing active interest in Pitcher since November via frequent emails from the recruiting coach about the program, an invite to a 30-player-only camp in January where they said "we'll definitely be in touch", etc. We just got their invite to Junior Day a couple days ago. Based on the different level of interaction with the schools and coaches we are going to this one, hoping it will lead to something more.

So, from our experience, Junior Day does not necessarily indicate serious interest from the school. But, as others have said, it is a way for your son to express his interest in the school. And who knows where that might lead.

PD
