My son has been asked to play for a team that will be attending the Junior Sunbelt Classic tournament. I have not heard of it until now. Can someone tell me what the quality of play is, is it heavily scouted, worth the trip? Is it worth trading a local showcase with 15 to 20 colleges at the same weekend? Thanks

The Junior Sunbelt tournament is a very good tournament; the teams are pretty much regional all star teams from around the country and Canada.

The competition is strong and the players get a feel for summer college leagues by staying with host families and the town just turns on their charm.

The tournament is highly scouted by colleges from very strong leagues including the ACC, SEC, etc.

There are very few showcases in Northern California that you would want to pass up for this tournament, unfortunately the Bay Area World Series ( http://eteamz.active.com/bcbayareabaseball/index.cfm? ) is one of them and the NorCal showcase is the other.

As far as what you should do, it is up to you what you are going there for, do you want to be seen by these types of schools vs California/Arizona, West Coast schools, but more important, the competition is second to none at the Jr. Sunbelt (Bay Area World Series won’t be as strong as many of the top players are in Oklahoma), only the high level PG - WWBA tournaments will have better competition which will make you better, if you can step up to the level of play.
