I'm glad I can finally give advice with any sort of authority on this website! My son is an 07 and he wrote his first letter on November 12, 2005 just before going to a Fall camp in Long Beach. He did this on the advice of some postings on this website. He also wrote to other colleges where he would be attending camps or showcases. The letter was a brief intro with a good picture (big enough so you could recognize him) and a handwritten note about the fact that he was interested and he was coming to their school. He followed the suggestions for intro letters on this website. In EVERY case, the recruiting coach personally addressed my son at the camp..he was recognized and told that they had received his letter. One college wrote back saying it is never too early to start thinking about college. So there you go! Just a thought: my son is keeping track of who he sent letters to, what kind of response and who he talked to at the camp/showcases. He's got a small file cabinet going now and a good tracking system. That way (if the big day ever comes and a college coach actually calls him) he can refer back to a letter or correspondence and say "You wrote me way back in January..I'm glad to hear from you!"
I'll never tire of the old timers sage advice. I think you amended my advice with a more thorough description of what to prepare to send out to coaches.

I suppose after a while many get tired of seeing us old timers repeat things. Smile

Good luck to all!
