2020 son attended a DII prospect camp a month ago as a PO. He was the only 2020 attending, it was very top heavy with 2017 and 2018. 40+ players attended . He was invited by a current member of the schools pitching staff, that he occasionally works out with.

After a few drills and a bullpen session,he took the mound and and pitched to a 3-4 batters. He did well, struck two out and induced a ground ball ( this went well since in his words " my bullpen sucked"). Pitching coached stopped him after pitching and asked what high school he played for, what travel team he played for, who was his coach and where was his travel ball teams home field. Son didn't think much of it, didn't even tell me of the conversation until the following day. He was more worried about his first date coming up, homecoming. The next day I encouraged him to email the pitching coach, so he thanked him for the help and encouragement and that he will hopefully be attending another  camp in the future. This was a learning opportunity since this was the first email he has ever sent. Coach responded by thanking him for attending and that he will be seeing him at a baseball field soon. A few days later he received a letter from the university's head coach with an evaluation of what they saw. Good arm strength for age, told him to stand tall and drive to the catcher. Mechanically he has a very good base and they liked his size, 6'2.5 190lbs. Also told him to trust himself and his stuff. The last comment was that they will be keeping an eye on his development.

Here it comes people, my question is..... Should anything be read into these two correspondences or are these both just basic contact after attending a prospect camp? Could this mean he is on their radar now?

Sorry if it sounds like I'm asking for someone to read the "tea leaves". I'm just new to all this.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

I think your second sentence is the big clue.  It was mostly 2017/18 kids.  That's the pool D2's fish in.  Have your son stay in touch, learn what you can about the school and keep playing baseball.  And keep a record of the contacts/emails with the coach.  If things go well, you guys will have a lot to keep track of.

Very positive camp and experience, but there is really no tea leaves to read.

Its all positive.  Good for him.

At 6 ft. 2 in. and 190 lbs and getting noticed as a freshman, he may find more interest from higher level programs in another year or two.

My own view is for your son to update this coach with his schedules, etc... when he has them, but to not necessarily race around to more venues as a freshman seeking affirmation/adulation.  Enjoy HS baseball, enjoy next summer on a good travel team that hopefully plays some at well attended events...and see where you are at the end of next summer.

Sounds to me like he's likely to be in a pretty good spot.

Absolutely.  It's right there in front of you.

Yada yada yada, bla bla bla, yada yada, bla bla.....    they liked his size, 6'2.5 190lbs  ... yada yada yada, bla bla bla, yada yada, bla bla...

Semi-kidding...  ... he got good overall feedback.  It's early.  Many will drool over his size, warranted or not.  Don't let it get to his head.  He should keep working hard, get good instruction, get good direction, enjoy playing, enjoy HS and have a great time at that HOMECOMING!!!!!

Sound advice, thanks.

Son attended for experience only. If we had known he would be the only 2020, he problably wouldn't have attended. In hind sight, he's glad he did. I've read enough advice on this forum to be careful and not throw money at camps and showcase events. He has his high school tryout this coming Feb and that's his focus. After HS season on to travel. Your response/advice is our plan moving forward. Keeping this coach up to date with his game schedule is something I didn't think of, good heads up. Thanks for your input, it is much appreciated.

Hahaha..... drool over his size? Yep, happens all the time. Quite frankly, if he keeps progressing as he has the last couple years, there's a chance it will be warranted, but it's not now. Loooooong way to go. Good thing is, he knows it..... Right now his middle name should be "Projects". We have heard this enough. Thanks for the advice and encouraging words and he had a wonderful time at homecoming...
