Hi everybody! Been a while since I have posted but do look in from time to time. It has been a very busy fall and getting Steve settled at school and seeing him happy is really awesome! Hang in there gang because there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Steve actually changed horses in mid stream and decided to go to Yakima Valley Community College and loves the school. It was a very good fit for him. He is playing baseball but it is a HUGE time committment and he has learned alot about time management, etc. He has 19 hours so is working hard and actually has a good GPA. His focus is on school as it should be. It was really weird not being involved in baseball this fall. We let him do his thing and he is close enough to come home on the weekends which is okay too.

Sorry to ramble, just want to know how every body is doing. 12smom - how is Ian doing? Seadog and Catchersdad how about your boys? I may have missed an update here and there so I apologize. Harbormom, sounds like Kevin is doing great. Enjoy the rest of the year.

Hey, Cindee,

Ian loves Santa Clara. He signed up for the engineering major workload of 5 classes, and he suffered for it for awhile. 19 credits also. Ended up getting sick for 3 weeks and dropped chemistry. Loves his baseball teammates and all, but he's looking forward to coming home for Thanksgiving. It's nice that the students can stay in touch with their high school friends on the internet and on cell phones. If he plays baseball again in Seattle, he will get an apartment with a friend at UW and take chemistry again at BCC or UW. At least that's the plan.
Cindee,

Congratulations on Steve's decision!! I am happy that he found the fit that all of us hope to see our sons find. Was there one or two special things that really made it a lock for him ? How is the coaching staff there? Does he expect to start or pay some dues first??
Alex is doing well and getting over a sore knee, we go in Monday to see if he needs an MRI. I am optimistic that he will be fine and just needed a little time off to heal.
Keep us informed of his winter work and what is expected of a first year player! Again, Congrats and my very best wishes to Steve!!

Catchersdad
Longtime no Hear Cindy. I am glad to hear of your sons success. You have to give us updates this spring.

Did they have a fall ball program? What made him choose Yakima?

I would be interested to hear.

My brother lives just down the road in Benton City so maybe I can catch one of his games on a visit to my brothers.

Take care.

The choices we make dictate the lives we lead.
Steve really struggled with where he wanted to go. He had almost too many decisions. Bottom line, he wanted to leave home but not be too far and the expense of some of the colleges he looked at. The D1 was in Connecticut and then D3's so I know he had some real concerns. He also knew the coaches at YVCC. He attended Stottlemyre Baseball camps from the time he was 9 until 15 and Coach Garrettson was one of the coaches there and the assistant Coach Mike Bailey also worked there and with Mel Jr in the Tri Cities. They played intersquad for fall. Says there is a couple of really good catchers ahead of him and one of which is draftable so will see how it goes. Weight lifting at 5 most mornings, afternoon agility workout and Sunday evening workout. He said with all the places he has played and the workouts he had experienced - there was no way to really know what the college level work out is until you get there....Take heed guys, he worked out this summer but still had a ways to go. I asked him who was in the best shape and he told me it was a player (24) just out of the Marines - we decided he (the Marine) definitely cheated! HA It is amazing how quickly they do get in shape. As you can see there is all kinds of age range (Steve being barely 18). He said the wood bat part is interesting and that is what they worked on during fall ball. Steve always practiced with woodbat but says it is a different game and takes some getting use to. Look for a good season, guess they recruited some pretty good talent so will see. Main thing is his education and he has grown up a lot in the last few months. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
