One of my guys walked over to Indiana game by himself. Sat on a hill way away from stadium with a blanket by himself. No one within a quarter mile of him. Security told him he couldn’t be there. Poor kid just wants to get out and enjoy his college experience. Which he pays a hell of a lot of money for.

Yes, particularly since whoever wants or needs a vaccine has gotten it by now.
I watched five innings of a high school game yesterday. Fans were not allowed on the premises. But fans were allowed in the parking lot. I stood within fifteen feet of the backstop.
We are 19 games in. Masks through the gate and off as soon as you enter. Only one school so far has enforced any mask policy. A few had limits on number of parents/family members. My son’s school takes your temp upon entering and that’s it.
Well, just to divert this thread completely (but remain on-theme), how about this?
So much of this is arbitrary and trying to "look" like you are being proactive. Much of it makes no sense at all.
Are other states making the high school players wear masks on the field? Are other states making high school umpires call balls and strikes from behind the pitcher?

No and no. The only noticeable difference on the field is the lack of a post-game handshake
In my part of GA there hasn’t been much sign of a pandemic at athletic events. We’ve had a few here and there wearing mask, a couple of military schools that didn’t allow spectators and fewer handshakes after games. That’s from fall sports through spring. Last week we had an umpire tell coaches after the jv game that they couldn’t shake hands. The home team’s HC came on the field and told them the game was over, they had been paid and their job was over. The handshake continued.
So far here in our neck of the woods in Texas, no masks required for spectators or players. Umpires calling balls and strikes as normal. At the beginning of the season an email came out said that there would be a limit on fan attendance. That hasn't happened. Stands have been packed for some games. Some schools have chosen to do online tickets for entrance, some still are taking cash at the gate. Snack bars are open. The only thing that is a little different than normal is the post game handshake is now a tip of the cap (usually by the winning team, the losing team usually doesn't care) and most of the coaches are wearing a gator or mask. I have noticed that players are wearing gators now around their neck as more of a fashion piece rather than to use a face covering. Might as well just get out a turtle neck shirt to wear. LOL.
But through all of this, no cases at all this season through all three teams in the program.

Ohio allowed HS wrestling to continue as normal.....but the two guys who just spent 6 minutes rolling around on the mat together weren't allowed to shake hands after the match lol. It's honestly comical that anyone could actually have thought up that rule, wrote it down on paper and sent to every HS in the state without stopping to think "man, this is the dumbest rule in history"

Yes, that *would be* a fashion statement
<sorry couldn't resist... in my 'neck' of the woods is FL and that spelling is a whole different meaning>

It cracked me up at football bowl games only one captain came to midfield for the coin flip for Covid safety reasons. Then they returned to the sidelines with about a hundred teammates and coaches.

The latter was the case in June of last year. It lasted a couple of weeks, and umpires moved back to their previous positions. The former was part of the original return to play at our local baseball complex (before anybody actually returned), but it was never enforced.
Our school ,still only allows two "guests/parents" to attend games. I jumped a fence and wore a mask and stood away from most people, to watch a friends kid pitch- and nobody seemed to mind. Heck, I'll wear masks all day, if I can watch a baseball game-Let me in!!!!!!!

In NC, as of right now, the HS teams have to wear masks on the field. Right now, HS baseball officially started yesterday (4/12/21) and games start next week. Hopefully, they will do away with the BS masks mandate by the first game!

Not for independents...still a requirement. Expect the same with public.
