Since finishing up his playing days last season my son Jeff started on his next chapter in his life. He always said that when he stopped playing he wanted to be a college coach. So last summer he was the assistant coach for the Wilmington Sharks in the CPL. He returned to Lander Univ to finish his degree and graduated in Dec. He spent the fall helping the coaching staff and was on board to coach this season as a volunteer assistant. He got a call just yesterday from Coach Anderson at Belmont Abbey offering him a job as a full time paid coach. Catching and hitting coach.

He refused to take the job without the blessing of his current HC Kermit Smith at Lander. Kermit gave his blessing saying "Anytime you can get paid to coach baseball it's an honor. Your going to be a great coach." Jeff is so excited and ready for this. His players are going to get all he has everyday. I am so proud and happy for him. His dream to do for a living what he loves has come true.

I really didn't want to post this after reading the sad news about Bobs wife. But I know this in a small way would put a little smile on his face. Hang in there Bob. God will take care of you.

Coach, I'm very happy for your son.  Looks like a very exciting opportunity and it is impressive how he asked for permission before taking the job.  Sounds like you instilled some solid values in your kid.  I imagine Bum, Jr. will be down this road when his playing days are over.. coaching is fun.  Good luck to Jeff.

That's absolutely AWESOME news!!

Knowing Jeff as I do, I'm confident that he's going to make a wonderful coach. In this instance, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree at all. With people of his caliber coaching, the sport we love is strengthened.

Please pass along my heartiest congratulations to him.

By the way, we miss your insights and guidance. It's great to see you here.

Kenny, if anything I am learning that we need to find joy wherever we can...I am so very happy to read Jeff's fantastic news (yes this put a BIG smile on my face).

Congratulations to Jeff and just as importantly, congratulations to you for raising such a fine young man. Can't imagine how proud you are!

You have to look long and hard to find a Coach May - now we have TWO Coach Mays!  This is simply the most outstanding news today. Over the moon happy for Jeff. Great job Dad, you raised him well - now those kids at Belmont Abbey are going to reap his and your collective knowledge. Good luck to him as he starts a new chapter!
