This weekend.

Our team. All juniors in high school.

Here is what I heard all weekend:

What college coaches are going to be here?
Hey - the coach from *** University is here.
I got a letter from *** - did you?
Who is going to verbally commit?
Did you hear that *** college is interested in ***?
The pitcher we are facing today is going to *** University next year.
Did you get invited to the *** showcase.

And from some of the parents.

What school is your son interested in?
Did he get any letters?
My son is taking an official at ***.
My son got a letter from *** University.
My son needs to rest for the *** showcase.

And on and on and on and on and on and on.

Only one problem.
They all forgot about playing the games this weekend. You know - the actual baseball games that we were there for.

IMO - One of the things you young fellas have to remember is that the talk is fun - but you actually have to play the game. And play it well.

I am not totally sure of that anymore - but I think I may be right. LOL.

It really reminds me of a feeding frenzy - gone terribly wrong.
You spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. ~Jim Bouton, Ball Four, 1970

Gamer Im glad Im not the only parent at these events that feels that way. I was starting to wonder actually. I hear the exact same things. What school does your son want to play at? Who is recruiting him? Did he get a letter from _________ yet? The coach from _______ is here today. On and on and on. Just play the game. Go out there and just play. Everything else will take care of itself. I have the same response everytime. He has a long way to go. He just needs to play hard and keep working. Most of the time they look at me like Im crazy or something.
