Let's try to have a little survey, without the bickering. My opinion, FWIW, is below. I think it's pretty clear, but for those constantly in need of clarification let me know and I'll see if I can help you. I would love to know whether you agree, strongly agree, don't know, disagree, or strongly disagree.

Quite simply today's pitchers (and position players) don't throw enough. Notice I said THROW, not pitch. You don't see kids throwing or playing catch anymore unless it's a structured practice or game situation. It's not really their fault. They get in trouble for throwing rocks, and just playing catch with a buddy (or a dad) is boring compared to a play station or an electronic whatever. So is throwing a tennis ball against a garage door, or a whiffle ball in the back yard. The bottom line is that although athletes are bigger, faster and stronger than ever, they just don't PLAY enough or THROW enough to develop baseball skills.

This Topic has really been "hashed over" a number of times, and always very emotionally.

But to respond to your question I actually DISAGREE with your last sentence; "they just don't PLAY enough or THROW enough to develop baseball skills."

I vividly remember my son's first 12yr. old Travel Team practice. I was literally amazed at how skilled those young boys were and thought they were certainly more "advanced and skilled" than my era was in high school! Today's players have the advantages of very good Coaching and they get it early on and it's even more prevalent as they progress (sometimes you may have to seek it out).

On throwing, or hitting or any other "fine motor skill" I actually AGREE with you. Throwing and playing games are two very different things as is training for youth vs. adults. But you don't get better at anything by NOT doing it. Studies show that fine motor skill regress after just 72 hours off....

I've never had anyone here agree with that premise, however. And I don't believe that any of the folks you mentioned; Tom House, Andrews or Fleisig have proven they know what works best either!
