My son played with Kyle on the same team at the PG National Showcase in Cincinnati last month. He said Kyle was one of the most humble kids he has ever met. One night after the last game was over, he and his mom and his HS coach who was also at the event asked all of us "Texas" guys to join them for dinner. It was a great evening. Kyles mom was very nice and as "down to earth" as you can get. Great family and great kid for sure. He has verbally committed to FSU, but I really don't see him going. I think he pitched and hit his way to the first or second round of the 08 draft that weekend!!
Congrats to Kyle! I can remember out team playing against Kyle in the AAU VA State tournament when he was 14. He had a great move to first base and, after we knocked out of the box, I got to talk to him a little bit while I coached first base. He made an error on a fairly easy grounder and I asked him what he did wrong. He didn't know at that moment, so I suggested that he should have simply moved in a step and "play the ball," that than let the ball play him. The thanks he gave me still resonates....an opposing coach helping out a kid who just made an error....a kid who seemed under a ton of pressure to succeed as his dad watched on nearby. He was a bright, young talent then and obviously a great talent today. His politeness and his poise should take him far. The last part of the story includes Howie signing baseballs or some of our kids after the game. Howie remarked that "Signing footballs is a lot easier!" Best of luck Kyle--we'll be watching for you to succeed and implore you to always do your best--it's the best you can do! Best wishes...
I was wondering about Kyle's injury which kept him from the Aflac game and found this from 9/15:

Friday’s biggest blow didn’t come in the form of the team’s two fumbles, an interception or penalties. Instead, it was the injury and hospitalization of its best player, two-way lineman Kyle Long.

The senior fell to the ground following an attempted tackle on Liberty running back Jamal Pannell about 2 minutes into the fourth quarter after receiving an apparent blow to the back of the neck.

The game stopped for nearly 30 minutes, while an ambulance came for Long, who lay still on the field except for the occasional moving of his right arm.

Blake told his players after the injury that Long was responsive and talking. The ambulance was precautionary, he said.

By all reports, the star player was in “good” condition, Blake said.

Has anyone heard any updated info? I hope it wasn't anything serious, just precautionary.
Sounds like he's ok. From Roanoke.com.

"It was Virginia's good fortune that senior defensive end Chris Long was able to approach Saturday's game at North Carolina with a clear head.

Long had a few anxious moments after hearing that his younger brother, Kyle, had been injured Friday night in Charlottesville, Va.

Kyle Long was immobilized and taken from the field in an ambulance after he suffered a neck injury in a football game between St. Anne's-Belfield and visiting Lynchburg Christian.

"I called my mom and I could tell right away that she didn't sound right," said Chris Long, who was at UVa's team hotel Friday night. "It was in my mind till I heard everything was good around 11:30 [p.m. Friday]."

Long said he spoke with his brother Friday night and again on several occasions Saturday morning.

By then, doctors had determined that Kyle Long had suffered a stinger, which is similar to a pinched nerve."
