Benefits - Better competition sooner.
Being draft eligible at a younger age with 3 years of college baseball under the belt.
Risks - Not being ready physically, academically or socially. It only takes one.
Generically speaking a player should be one of the top players in the nation, have excellent grades and be very mature for his age to even consider taking this route.
