- Pitcher throws a high fastball.
- Batter swings, and foul tips it directly into the catchers mitt.
- Speed of the ball causes it to pop out of the mitt, hit the catcher's mask, and ricochet straight up into the air about 4 feet.
- Catcher looks up and catches the ball.

I believe that would be a legally caught foul tip. Is that correct?

Nope - the pros will give a much better explanation but basically once it touches anything else it's a dead ball.

It's a foul tip (all foul tips are legally caught). As long as the ball goes sharply and directly to F2's mitt first, it is live and in play and can be caught unless it touches the ground.

Under FED rules, any fielder can catch the foul tip. Under all other codes (OBR & NCAA), it must be caught by F2.

Dash is correct, if it touches his glove or hand first, then it can be caught as a foul tip.
