In this area Legion is not strong. What are thoughts on 2020 playing it instead of the typical showcase events every one else plays? Get him accustomed to older competition and work on skills until he has something worthwhile to showcase.

Are you confusing showcases with 14u travel? There's travel and there are events that draw coaches and scouts. It's specific 16u and 18u events. If you're looking for college exposure from a weak Legion program/league you won't draw flies. What is your son's age? What are you trying to accomplish? If he wants to ultimately play college ball playing for a quality travel team will draw attention from the quality teams that play 16u and 18u showcase events.
Thinking about next year, 15u. Play weaker Legion and hone skills or 16u showcase and take his chances? Make sense?
What is he doing this year? Why not find a quality 15u travel team next year to help set him up for the following year? How does a player hone his skills playing in a weak baseball program? Given he's fourteen this summer what has he accomplished that leads you to think he's on track to play college ball?
I would find it difficult to believe that playing with 15 to 19 y.of would be weak competition.
He said Legion is weak in his area. It's weak in our area. In our area Legion is varsity bench, JV players and a handful of former high school players not good enough to play college ball. It's not the kind of competition to improve by playing against.
Looks like extended HS is going to be his solution. Extended and 7-on-7 football are killing Legion around here.
I keep up with our legion team on GC. Their last game there were 25 walks. Today they won 15-1 and the other team walked them 14 times. Our team is pretty solid but the Bryant legion team will roll our state if Lee and Jackson are still playing.

My son is able to do both 7 on 7 and Legion ball this year and 2 years ago. We just told the coach that 7 on 7 supercedes summer ball
