I coach an 18U tournament team. We play 1 or 2 doubleheaders per week and a good tournament on the weekends. We also attend a World Series in some part of the country every year. We usually are not dominant, but always have a winning record. We charge players nothing out of pocket. We only ask that everyone help with fundraising. The coaches do this purely for fun and to watch kids do well. All this being said, we found it a challenge in our area (KC, MO) to get kids to go out for our team instead of a legion club. I realize everyone has their reasons but I cant see any comparison. Their are so many restrictions with legion ball as far as areas coaches can recruit from, waivers, releases. They only play the legion teams in their small area, which is only about 12 around KC, MO, which to me would get boring. Then a legion team has to be very, very, very good to get to play in any post season tournament outside of their state. Could anyone give me any kind of input as to this situation? Thanks.

9095,

Hard to say why in your neck of the woods you are having a tough time recruiting kids. Up here in northern Il. the local legion teams are having the same problem you are having. Kids are choosing to go to travel programs instead of Legion.

Here in Crystal Lake we have a very dedicated coach in Bob Bacci who will help out in every way he can to get his kids in quality baseball programs. Maybe you have the same situation, maybe these legion coaches in your area are promoting their players better than you can. At the age your speaking of, kids are looking for exposure but also a coach who is reputable that can put in a good word for his players.

I don't know if this will help, jut my opinion.
