Often the efforts of our high school baseball coaches go unappreciated. One coach we would like to spotlight is Henrico County coach Ken Schrad. The Warriors coach does 'more with less' than just about any coach in the region, if not the state. Schrad not only has the Warriors winning on the field (five district playoff appearances, three regional bids) but off the field as well. This season 11 of his 16 players were earned all-academic honors! As Ken said ""Our goal is to have an entire team of classroom achievers. I guess 11 out of 16 isn't bad. That's a lot like an 11-5 season. I'm proud of that record."

One thing folks should know is that Ken is not a teacher. He is a lawyer who works for the state government. He shifts his schedule to early hours every spring so he can get to HHS and run that team -- not to mention the countless hours he spends working the field. (I played adult league ball on that field some years back and comparing then to now, it's just been a transformation.)

This is truly a guy who does it for the love of the game and dedication to his players. He's taken a program that had reached perennial doormat status and built them into a team that is always trouble and often a contender. He has put players into D-1 baseball, something that was unheard of at HHS before his arrival.

Truly one of the unsung success stories in our region.
Can we at least keep the Deep Run soap opera out of this string? This guy is one of the best coaches around. He has the respect and admiration of his players, parents, administration, and fellow coaches. As has been said already, this guy gives more and does more with less than probably anyone in the state. Ken’s a class act and an inspiration to anyone who knows him. Let’s keep the focus on him.
