You got that right...from what I've been told, and checking the roster...In addition to a super crop of JC players - many from quality CA JC's...they get a bunch of high level DI players (Texas, ORU, LSU, USF...)each year who transfer there for a variety of reasons, and all studs. They do get a number of players drafted. We have a HSBBW poster whose son is mentioned in the preseason info as a starting/Ace pitcher there this spring....no mean feat.

Actually, the way the Series is set-up, Lewis and Clark gets an automatic bid into the World Series every year because they are the host site. This is a rather contentious topic among NAIA but they own the series through 2012, I think. It does give them a tremendous recruiting advantage.

The facilites there are very nice and they do a wonderful job hosting the series. I was a bit shocked and pleased about how everyone in the community welcomed the teams and how closely they followed the games. I was with my son and some of his teammates in a Subway. They had their baseball t-shirts on and the guy behind the counter says, "You guys play at 3 today? Good luck!"(They did...play at 3, I mean)
On another occasion, we got into a conversation with a guy who followed our game better than I did. He was discussing specific pitch counts and plays.

I would think that this would be a fun place to play as the community support is great. They love the team.
I am not really sure how hard it is to get on the roster. It started at 61 when 1st published on the web site. It is now 45 after the 2nd semester started. The postseason roster last year had 24. Last year 26 players got an at bat, and 22 players played in double figure(10 or more) games. 16 pitchers got inning. 9 got more than 20 innings.Of course when you go 58 and 7 and outscore your opponents 601 to 232, have a team ERA of 2.92 compared to opponents 8.01, there are probably plenty of games where coach hands out playing time. Last year LCSC went 3 - 1 against D1 opponents.

I know they work hard, starting Labor Day. My son has enjoyed everything about the program, so far, except the cold. He is not used to that. Probably the 20 kids from CA on the roster aren't either.

An unbelievable program. A true baseball factory. They host a "Spring" tourney every year called the Banana Belt. Air Force went one year, and I had to laugh at the terms Spring and Banana Belt. Even coming from Colorado, the AFA kids froze. I was there and the only tourney I remember being colder was in Millington, TN in late February.

I don't believe many go there for the sterling education. Lewiston, ID is a beautiful place in it's own way... but it is truly off the beaten track. One of those "you can't get there, from here, places..." But if you make this squad, there is probably a place for you at a higher level. I would think getting playing time would rank right up there with any competitive D1.

Banana Belt... that's funny....

Academy Dad.. Lewis and Clark State is just 100 miles south of where I live. While it is not in the "banana belt" in the Miami-sense, it is definitely warmer and sunnier than you might imagine. Springs can be fickle but overall they have fine, often hot weather in Lewiston.

Just for fun, here is a climate chart for Lewiston, Idaho and Colorado Springs, CO (where the academy is):

--------Lewiston-------Colorado Springs
Jan1---Hi 38, Low 27------Hi 41, Low 14
Feb1---Hi 42, Low 29------Hi 43, Low 16
Mar1---Hi 50, Low 33------Hi 48, Low 21
Apr1---Hi 58, Low 38------Hi 55, Low 28
May1---Hi 64, Low 44------Hi 63, Low 37
Jun1---Hi 74, Low 50------Hi 74, Low 45
Jul1---Hi 83, Low 57------Hi 82, Low 53
Aug1---Hi 90, Low 61------Hi 83, Low 56
Sep1---Hi 83, Low 56------Hi 78, Low 50
Oct1---Hi 70, Low 47------Hi 70, Low 40
Nov1---Hi 53, Low 37------Hi 55, Low 28
Dec1---Hi 42, Low 31------Hi 45, Low 18

As you can see, it's much warmer than Colorado Springs, mainly because it's close to sea level. Cool It's also close to the fantastic Hells Canyon.. should have been a National Park years ago.

Thanks for the research. I went to school in Missoula, so no one loves the Inland Empire more than I do. And I like Lewiston a lot. Sounds like you live in Spokane... I like that even better. In fact we looked at a place at the Idaho Club a few years back.

My only recollection was the Banana Belt Tourney of '07. And it was unbelievably COLD. Corn snow everyday! We played Wazzu one night where the temp was between 24 and 29F. I don't think they should've played. You are correct about COS, and my complaint about that town is how FAST the weather changes. Also the Academy is at 7500 ft elevation.

I do like the Lewis & Clark facilities and their winning program though...
