Be patient, it will work itself out. He has one thing working in his favor...he is PLAYING, not sitting
Why couldn't he DH when not pitching? Seems to me they could find someone to play 1B when he is pitching, and keep his bat in the lineup on the other days.
Being an unsigned college senior, he will most likely draft as a pitcher (if drafted), and having been clocked in the mid 90's should put him on draft boards, even if he had control issues in the past.
Did he get drafted after jr year, and not sign?
Why was he taken out of the pitching rotation if control issues are in the past? Why not a 2-way or, as BFS suggests, DH?
Advantage for what? The Draft? I don't think so, but I don't know because I haven't seen your son. As one poster mentioned, he will probably get drafted as a LHP.
Not likely unless he is drafted as a position player. Still wondering why he was taken out of the rotation. How are his numbers? K/BB ratio? Level of competition? Clocked mid-90's but where does he sit? I'm only asking the questions because you asked for our thoughts. We need more of the background to have thoughts to share.
Does this help the team win? If so then that's all that truly matters in the eyes of the coach and I don't blame him. He has to keep his job in order to keep a roof over his family's head. If that means your son stops pitching and starts hitting then that's what's going to happen. Your son needs to figure out how to get pitching exposure outside of the college team. Easier said than done. But maybe the coach is contacting pro scouts saying your son projects better as a pitcher but he needs him in the field.
The next question is "why doesn't he go both ways and / or DH"? Well nobody knows that except for the coach. Seems like your son needs to visit the coach and ask questions then express what he hopes to happen and then see if they can develop a plan.
