I think that you have to have some sense of humor in this profession.
My son had us hysterically laughing one night, relaying some stories passed down by his "skipper".

Pitcher's sometime get labeled "crazy" because of the weird things they come up with while sitting hours through a game. Seed spitting contests, spitting for distance contests and largest bb gum bubbles occurs nightly (just to name a few of some of the activities you might be familiar with
).
It's not an easy way of life, you have to learn to make the best of it.
