Wow, where is it all going? Why do we continuously look ahead instead of enjoying the present moment? I'm REALLY bad at this. There are so many times I find myself, for months on end, so focused on some future unknown or intangible that I let the very moment I'm living in slip away unnoticed. Baseball is just one aspect of this (I'll be in a daze during his high school season if I don't stop wondering what his summer season is going to be like). I ask that we all take a moment to make sure we are living NOW, not in some future that may or may not come to pass. Someday you will want , more than anything, the return of these 'normal, routine' days.
I Hope You'll Dance!!

Krakatoa,
Very good .... but we are all guilty as charged. I think it has something to do with self preservation. Our ancestors (at least the ones that survived) had to be constantly planning and working for the future. Maybe those that stopped to smell the roses were eaten by saber toothed tigers! PS ... Are you suggesting we change the Boy Scouts' motto from “Be Prepared” to “Enjoy the Moment”?

Well, I hate to be getting too philosophical on a Monday morning.... but, I think we all tend to feel this "Life is going too fast" as we get older. I think as one ages and reflects you can always look back and find those roses that you forgot to smell.

I can remember my son's senior year and telling myself to not miss the joy in the year because of the sadness of it ending. I wish that for you and your family too Krakotoa!
Krakatoa:

Why do I want to burst out in song? Sha la la la la la "Let's Live for Today" hey hey-ey

and "We May Never Pass This Way Again..."

When my babies were babies, people would always say to me--"I'll bet you can't wait until he/she" (fill in the blank, possible anwers: crawl, walk, talk, go to school) and my response was always, "Well, yes, I can." Too many people announced how fast time goes, so I wanted to freeze every almost every moment...As slow as life seemed to drag at the time, it went by so quickly...

Which reminds me--Time flies, whether you're having fun or not.

As an aside, just the other day, I realized that I DO miss the house being littered with Legos, Power Rangers, and Barbies...

Wasn't that just like last week Playbaseball!?!?!?! Legos, Barbies, baby dolls and the big thing in our house wasn't the Power Rangers, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!!! All packed up and out in the garage now! Smile
lafmom:

I never bought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for my oldest...I was a bad mom. But we had PLENTY of firetrucks...including Playmobil with all those teeny tiny pieces...I don't think I could see them now, with the current condition of my eyes...no wonder you should have babies when you're young...so you can see all of the itty bitty fragments of toys!

I think our older son grew up thinking that Obi-Wan Kenobi was the wisest man in this...or any other...galaxy. ...and we had every action figure and vehicle imaginable.

Meanwhile, there have been innumerable moments along the way that I wished I could "bottle." But, you know what? They haven't stopped. They're just different.

May the Force be with you.
My son had a train set with a million little pieces that may have been playmobil (can't remember for sure) that we'd set up that covered the living room floor. Had some trees and people, etc. - we'd even use the legos to build additional "forts" around the train station! LOL Goodness, I am positive that was just last week!! 14 Those are in the garage somewhere too!

Prepster:

I agree. The freezable moments are Just Different. I find it's as hard to be a parent of an 18 year old freshman than for a 3 year old...just different....

lafmom: We had (I'm sure) the COMPLETE set of Brio trains...all are packed up in the basement...It WAS last week!!!

Ah, yes, as John Lennon put it, "life is what happens while you're making other plans". Of course, he also wrote things like, "I am the eggman, I am the walrus, coo-coo-ca-choo", so perhaps we shouldn't take his pronouncements too seriously.... Big Grin

Me, I liked the idea Vonnegut put out there in 'Slaughterhouse Five'---- Billy Pilgrim has become unstuck in time. He jumped all over his life in random order --- he was a child, his kids were adults, then babies. Alas, he had no control, but I'd certainly like to revisit some times and preview others alieneyesa
krak....good post......many parents of youth athletes are very guilty of looking ahead.....i bet the parents who have experienced the "got THE call" type of thing could tell us more than anyone about enjoying the moment.

The bottom line is that tomorrow will not come for some people (no matter how well we plan), so we better enjoy today!
