Lipscomb BISONS?

I may be late to the party on this item... or maybe I'm missing something obvious... but regarding Lipscomb University Bisons: isn't the plural form for bison "bison" and not "bisons"? Maybe I've watched too much regional action over the past 24 hours...

They have voted on changing it a few times but decided the tradition is more important than the grammar. They have even tried getting the correct plural changed lol. Besides if they changed it their local rival Belmont would lose some of their favorite jokes.
