Just read this in Boston Globe Red Sox coverage. Some old-timers might recognize this player's name.

quote:
First baseman Jason Stokes fouled off a two-strike pitch and worked the count to 3-and-2 before whiffing on a slider.

"A quality pitch," said Jim Palmer. "He hung a couple of high sliders to Stokes which he fouled back, then he got him on the 3-and-2 pitch.
Stokes was facing Matsuzaka.

A little better quote:

Jason Stokes's Stock Rising
Back in late January, I mentioned that you should keep an eye on Marlins first baseman Jason Stokes. He missed most of 2005 due to thumb and wrist injuries, but he's got major power and could easily find his way into the Marlins' youthful lineup.

Now comes word that the Fish are trying to teach Stokes to play left field.

I just updated my projections for the 12th time, and I added one for Stokes. I have him hitting .241 with 18 HR and 60 RBI in 370 ABs. He could easily top 20 bombs depending on playing time, but he probably won't hit better than .250. Still, this could be one of the cheapest 20 HR sources available in deep leagues.
