I noticed that the Connie Mack league for the Lonestar ABA has 23 teams listed http://www.lonestaraba.com/connie.htm
however on the game schedule handed out by the coaches they don't all play each other.

Some teams play against 6 or 7 other teams in the league, while some play against 10 or 11. There also doesn't seem to be any (or much) mixing of the games between these groups, i.e. In the team schedules I checked I did not see any coincidences of opponents in one group of teams playing similar opponents in another group of teams.

Can anyone enlighten me on the reasoning behind this? Is this typical of the summer travel team leagues? This is our first year in this league.

If all teams were to play each other then you would have to play 22 league games.

Way too many during the summer for most teams trying to get to Farmington and playing tournaments too.

I would guess some teams requested to play others and the scheduler did the best they could.

AABC BBI Premier elected to play 10 games. That's 5 double header dates for us. League play is a necessity simply to qualify for AABC post season. Otherwise I believe you would see the better teams in the area not play in a league per se.

Thanks. Maybe our schedule is a little different.

I looked at the schedule and we are playing 6 teams 3 times each. I checked the other team schedules and its the same for them. No one plays any other team outside of the group of 7 teams and every team plays each other 3 times.

Does that mean we are all from one division? Or maybe some of the teams are from different divisions but thats just the way it worked out for the scheduler?

Thanks.

Do you know how many divisions there are, besides the lower division? There are 23 teams, minus 7 from the lower division, leaves 16 teams. Are these further broken into other divisions?

Sorry if these may be dumb questions but I'm just trying to educate myself some.

I was finally able to figure it out.

Thanks.
New2This,
Sorry about that this is the correct format!

There are actually 4 divisions with in the Connie Mack division but for some reason Lone Star will not make this clear on paper. I guess they don't want to hurt any feeling as far ad the lower tier teams go. There are 8 teams in division 1. 8 teams in division 2 and 4 teams in Division 3. And 4 teams in division 4. Everyone in division 1 and division 2 play each other twice in there division and then there will be inner division play for the remainder of the games to round out your eighteen game schedule. Everyone in division 3 and division 4 play each other 3 times each and the remainder of the 18 game schedule will be inner division play between division 3 and division 4.

This is not accurate.

I agree that there doesn't seem to be clear info on how the league is structured, other than a list on Lonestar's website listing all the teams in the Connie Mack League, which is why when we received the games schedule I was somewhat puzzled by the match-ups.

From the comments made by DBacks the best I can figure out by sorting the schedule by teams is that there are 2 (3?) Divisions. One division(s) divided by age group - 18 and 17. I can't really tell 100% for sure but there seems to be nine or ten 18 teams and six or seven 17 teams, which makes 16 total. Then there are the 7 teams which DBacks refers to as the lower or HS Division, for the total of 23 teams in the league.

The lower/HS division plays each other 3 times for 18 games. It looks like the 18 and 17 teams in the other division(s) play seven teams twice and four teams once, for the 18 game total. It seems the scheduling of games is pretty much along age lines although its really not clear where the division lines are. I imagine that this is because there is not an equal number of teams in the 17 and 18 age groups.

Anyway, it would be good if the teams making up each division were published on the web site so everybody would know what they are, as well as the criteria for how the teams are grouped. Publishing the total list of teams on the web site gives the impression (to the uninformed) that there will be league play to some extent among all the teams, when in fact there are two distinct divisions that do not interact.

If any of the 17 age teams want their pre-sorted schedules I have them. Big Grin
