Check with your local golf courses. It may be that they'll donate an old one. Make a pitch to the maintenance or greens committees, and take a shot at a board meeting.
Put this in your browser search engine "used golf course maintenance equipment". You'll be surprised at how much stuff is out there.
Bring a big golf bag next time you play. 
Stats, yeah, we've tried all the local golf courses.
Redbird, that's actually closer to our reality than you might think. A couple small drags pulled by hand. JV does same and they have all dirt IF. Yikes.

Check ebay. I bought one off of ebay a few years ago..
