I am an assistant coach for an NAIA school in NJ. I am looking to scout tournaments/showcases throughout the country this summer and fall. Any rosters for specific showcases and tournaments would be appreciated so I can pick appropriate locations and manage my time accordingly. Thank you. Coach B.

Have you checked out the Dandrige TN area? There is a complex there (and I'm sure threads in the TN forum regarding) that has constant tournaments during the summer. It's a multi field complex and isn't packed with scouts or coaches, but there's always a few around with teams providing a variety of level of competition.
This is copied from the official NAIA site. It lists every NAIA affiliated college by state. Here are the states that NAIA colleges are located. They do not show any NAIA Colleges in New Jersey. In fact, NJ is one of the few states without any NAIA schools listed.

What is this all about? I apologize if THEY made a mistake.

Confusing is all.

It just seems odd that an NAIA college from the Northeast is traveling to Miami, Texas and everywhere else to find players... As you posted in the Texas and Florida forums also. The Northeast has lots of talent all over the place.

The top NAIA college we know of in New York had every player on their roster from NY. I didn't check the other few. Maybe you're talking about Pennsylvania?
Coach B,

Looking at all your past posts here I’m even more confused and interested.

Your first post was asking for a roster from an event in California.

Then this in the Help Wanted: Players/Teams/Coaches/Tournies Forum

Then the Illinois Forum where you posted this…

As part of my "midwest recruiting tour" I am thinking of going through Chicago. Anyone with top tournament team rosters/showcase rosters/etc. this summer in Chicago please pass them along so I can plan my schedule accordingly. Thanks. Coach B.

Then this in Summer Tournaments Forum

My confusion…. I don’t know any top DI colleges with a schedule like that one. Your school must have the largest recruiting budget in the country. Sorry if I seem overly skeptical, but I get the feeling you’re not being entirely honest here.

If I am wrong, more power to you and I hope you help a lot of kids experience how great college baseball is.
I only WISH I could travel the entire country!!! That is the whole point of my questions...the more I can learn about certain areas and their tournament schedules...the better I will be able to focus in and only travel where I need to travel. Most likely budgeting means I can only mail 95% of mentioned players coaches information on the program, and see the other 5%. I am a little confused about "skepticism" when I thought the name of the game was exposure! I apologize completely for misrepresenting, like I said before...if people weren't always so skeptical it wouldnt have to be that way!

Again, apologies. My needs are not specific...I am just trying to see what events are out there. I am still confused about being "fishy". The idea is not to stalk your children at night. What is the accusation? My fake team wants to send your team fake brochures?

Hmmm,...which is it?

" MR. Perhaps you would like to start over and tell us who you are or who you coach for.
If you are legit, then I am sure you will get plenty of information. Smile

Where on Earth did you come up with that?
Tournaments that we have attended over the years have had a list of college's that would be represented at the event. Those coaches attending, encouraged participants to email them and let them know that they were interested in attending their school, so that those coaches could take a good look at those players, along with the others.

Isn't THAT what its all about? Coaches finding good players who WANT to play for them?

Sir,....if you are indeed an NAIA coach from the northeast area and you have a recruiting budget large enough to hit the west California coast and the deep south,.....that's pretty darn amazing.
Never heard of such a thing before.
Please elaborate.
I'm sure there are plenty of other NAIA coaches across the nation, heck DI and DII schools too, who would like to know your secret!

It better not be.
I find this quote alarming.

Boy oh boy am I confused. Do you know the definition of "needs"? A specific tournament and specific needs are hardly comparable. You realize players play all positions at tournaments, right? I can understand skepticism, because I did lie. But an interrogration over simple questions asking to facilitate how I can find public information is alarming. I will NOT be able to attend every tournament in the country which is WHY I would need other ways to provide players with information! If you had seen some of the messages I get from individual parents you would understand why I would want to keep my program/identity vague on a message board! I am still trying to identify why a tournament roster that is posted on most teams websites is so highly confidential to a few when most players and parents enjoy every bit of interest. If you don't want to give the information up, then don't...it's simple. If you want it to be public information, then share. I don't see how your post does any player any benefit.
Coach Brown,

I think this is the concern that has people asking you so many unexpected questions:

Baseball people who are familiar with the summer tourney and showcase circuit have heard many reports of baseball business operators contacting players and saying "We saw you play at XYZ Tourney and we are very impressed."

That sounds good, right? The only problem is, that baseball business operator didn't attend the tourney or showcase and has never see that player play. He just got the name from a roster.

What is the harm in that? Well, the baseball business operator in these reports then goes on to say "Since we were so impressed, we are inviting you to attend our event (or we want to help you with the recruiting process, etc.) and it will only cost you $X,100. We think you have the ability to play at ABC level, with our help."

Those are the reports many of us have heard. And we hate to see players or parents lied to or taken advantage of, for the purpose of getting them to spend money, by someone who hasn't seen the player but pretends they have.

I hope this helps you to understand the skepticism expressed in the many threads you started asking for rosters. If you would like to contact me offline at hsbaseballweb@comcast.net and let me know your name and the name of the college you work for, and your reason for wishing to keep that info private while using our forums to compile lists of names, I could at least then post here letting members know whether your identity seems legitimate.

I understand the concerns with business operators, but you do realize that we, as schools, hardly ever see your son play at events when we send them the first letter right...and then invite them to our camp? I hate to jump through hoops because of illegitimate businesses, but the parents can decide right from wrong...I hope.

There seems to be an awkward fraternity here. I hardly feel compftorable e-mailing you.

Yeap,.....ya sure did.
Not exactly ethical, imho.

Inviting a player to a camp is one thing.
To say that you are inviting the player, because you have seen him before at XYZ tournament ( when in fact, you have not ), is a lie, misleading, and also unethical, imho.
The more seasoned/older players/parents may be aware of this false marketing tactic,....but for those just starting out, they can be easily mislead.
As the parent of a graduated senior who went through a long recruiting process, I resent this tactic.
I realize that everyone has to make a buck,...but to do so under false pretenses is annoying.

I find it interesting that you are willing & have enough confidence in this site to use it for your own personal gain, ( under false pretenses at that ) yet you do not feel confident enough to email the owner of this site with your credentials.
As a parent and as a consumer, that creates a big red flag to me.

If you have to lie to a player ( by creating a false hope that you have seen his talent at previous event and are interested in him ) inorder to get him to pay money to attend your camp,.....
chances are your camp isn't worth his hard earned money.

Good camps and good programs dont need to create falsehoods to get players to attend.

JMHO

You may have had better luck stating:
Hi,.....I'm coach __________ from __________ college and we are holding our camp on _____________. If interested, please contact me and I will send you the details.

We have many college programs on the HSBBW who do just that and their information is welcomed.
They are forthright and upfront.
It usually works out well.

I posted the below in the California section. I have coaches call and email all the time so please feel free to do so. We could be of help. PG Staff can tell you were a legitimate program.

Coach Brown,

Can you tell me what college you are from? Please shoot an email to mike@sgvbaseball.com so I can pass along some information. I have seen your posts on various sections. Our website is http://www.sgvbaseball.com.

I understand what MN-Mom is saying. We have been at tournaments where guys have come up to us and say they are looking at certain guys and wanted a roster. We would ask who they were with. They would say "We are looking for UC College" or Scouting. We know all the coaches in SoCal and most scouts so would tell the "guys" we will just send the roster to the coach.

Coach Brown,

The above post by Mike Viera is legit. He runs an organization/teams that travel the entire country including our events, besides playing in one of baseball's biggest hotbeds. Surely you would want to get to know him because he could help you tremendously. You do not keep your affilation secret when dealing with coaches,do you?

All anyone wants here is for you to be honest. Once everyone understands that your true purpose is recruiting players, I think maybe I can speak for others, you would be welcome with open arms.

BTW, why wouldn't you contact MN-Mom. She owns the site and if you're a legitmate college coach she could let us all know without revealing the name of the college. Then we would all be more comfortable.

I haven't found a program yet that won't market to and give hope (often time false) to any player willing to attend and pay.

How was your boy "found"? Who saw him?

I'm guessing there we 2-300 boys at alot of your boys same events. They all deserved to be there?

All camps are great when you're good, not so great when you're not.

The truth is, as a college program we are always just looking for the diamond in the rough. The "rough" are often ignored. I'd imagine there isn't an organization out there without that philosophy...otherwise they wouldn't see all that many players or make enough $ to pay their coaches.

I already was not honest, and first impressions are very important. It most likely would not be wise to continue the particular discussion (especially after the warning from the other poster), however I have no problem just staying and talking baseball.
I saw your quick post, and edit about Area Code. So you're son is part of the top 10% that could actually get invited, congrats on that. I'm, pretty sure all organizations/programs actually do have legitimate invitees. So what about the other players? Is area code not looking for the "diamond in the rough" at their area code camps? Are those no longer $100 or so? Do they not market them at all?

Sir,...I'm glad to be back from work to respond to your post. I started to post to you beforehand and was rushed. Didnt feel I could give you a fair/complete response if I was hurrying.
I'm back now, with time to spare and will respond.

As far as we can guess, my son's first serious look was at the Area Code tryout. There was no cost, ( except for gas and the homemade peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches he made. Big Grin )
Top 10% you say?
I doubt that very much. There was a wide variety of talent there from all ranges of the spectrum.
My son did not make the final Chicago White Sox team.
FYI: Area Code camps are open to anyone who would like to attend and are free. The invite tryouts are free as well.
While there, my son was seen by colleges ( all levels ) and pro scouts.

You say that you are trying to learn how " these good programs " do it.
I gave you a suggestion in a previous post:

I'm not an expert by any means, but here are some ideas that I have gotten from what I consider
" good programs ":
Start with honesty.
Run a legit camp/showcase.
No false pretenses.
No false promises.

It can be done.
It is done.
