I've never been accused of being quiet...but I don't think of myself as "Loud". I have a volume that is effective in communicating to the players exactly what I want!!! Sounds better that way. Coach Knight
Thanks for your replies so far. I've heard both sides; some think if you are too loud than the other team will be aware if you are sending the man or not while others think that everyone else will be screaming so you may as well be sure that the player can hear whether to hold up or keep going.
I think whether you are loud or quiet depends a lot on your own personality. It is difficult to be loud when you are quiet by nature or quite when you are normally loud.Just my opinion.
I can tell you that my son prefers a loud coach. He and his teamates complain sometimes about one of the coaches when he fills in at third. He is a quiet guy by nature. They like it loud with no chance of confusion.
I'm the reserved talker 95% of the time. If I go off there's a major issue. If you're not sure if I'm ticked look into my eyes and/or check to see if my eyes are cutting you like lasers. When a kid comes off the field and sees my arms crossed and my eyes burning into them, they know they'll hear "Coach X wants to talk to you." When I'm the assistant coach I play the good cop.
Then there's the way I coach BASKETBALL. But basketball has crowd noise issues and lack of stoppage of play baseball doesn't have to deal with.
