I have read a lot of post hear about getting players to showcases and camps for college exposure. With times the way they are right now money is a huge issue with me. I am worried this will affect my boys chances of getting the exposure they deserve.

I have two boys that I beleive have the tools to play college baseball. One is a (Jr) catcher/3rd baseman and the younger one (Fr) is a pitcher/catcher.

My older son is not a D1 talent, I don't think, but he has the tools to play for a D11 or JUCO college as a catcher. His POP times are respectable at 1.90-2.00 with room for improvement with the right coach (will get to this point in a minute). He is strong at the plate as well. Hit .500 at HS this year with 8 HRs.

My younger son (Freshman) has the potential to be something special, in my opinion. His POP time is already 2.00 Avg and occasionally hits in the 1.9s. Has good arm and fast feet and hands. He is throwing in the 80s (83+/-) on the mound with good off speed pitches. If he continues to progress I think he could possibly be D1 material.

With all that said, my question is what does a father do to get his sons exposure with LIMITED funds? I want to give my boys every opportunity they deserve but I am not sure how to do that. Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated.

I haven't any idea of your experience in the Travel ball during the summer arena based off of your post. To get the best and most exposure, playing on a strong, competitive travel team during the summer is your best bet. It not only allows them the opportunity to be seen by colleges but more importantly to see the levels of talent out there to measure themselves by.

Are either of your boys playing this summer? If not, I'd try to get them on one but it being end of May already it may be tough. Just being realistic.

I would begin by looking at all the D1, D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO websites in Georgia for starters and see which colleges are having summer camps. Go to them. I know a good one (that doesnt cost much) is one at the end of summer at Young Harris. Tons of colleges attend both showcases.

Maybe if you let us know more what you are already doing, etc. we can point you in a better direction.

Good luck!

Yes my boys have played travel ball since they were about 9 or 10. I have them in a local summer program, or showcase team, but that is what is eating up most of my money. I keep hearing all this about going to camps at colleges but that is an additional expence that I don't think I can afford. I am hopefull that the showcase team is enough along with some of the recruiting sites like BeRecruited.com.
For now, I'd only be concentrating on your oldest son as far as additional expenses are concerned. Which you may have already concluded that yourself. The youngest has time to grow, mature, etc. before you are overly concerned with his college choices.

Not ALL college summer camps cost money. I'd pick 1 or 2 of the ones that interest your son and save up your coke bottles for. There are a few of the JUCO's in Georgia that I know don't cost a penny. Have you done your due diligence and checked?

I am looking at North Georgia College's website right now and see 4 camps this summer with the first one June 1-2.

If your son is on a travel team that is playing in the summer WWBA over at East Cobb this summer, he should see PLENTY of colleges in attendance.
