I'm very thankful for all the calls, even at 10:30 last night!

Not lots, but seven, two of them last night...

Five total. All schools son is VERY interested in, so he was very happy. So was Dad

The key is to get the calls from the schools the player has an interest in

Now they need to follow it up with letter and their schedule for the HS season, summer and fall--the door has been opened now the player needs to walk thru it

Son received several calls. What a great experience for him! We were most impressed on how well our son carried on the conversations! To see him maturing right before our very eyes is amazing! Pretty exciting time for all!

Four calls...1 the first day, then 2 more early this week, and finally 1 the next to last night! Been receiving letters, but the excitement grows a little with actual direct communication.

Big "E" got 5 calls. Three early in the month (first night), and two more later in the month. We are just living the dream.

This is such a fun time for you all.

Let me just throw out a reminder though to all. There is still a long way to go! For those that got them, build off of it. Like TR says, follow it up with a letter/email with your HS and summer schedule. There is so much evaluating and playing left to go.

For those that didn't, don't worry too much about it. Lots of time left. Lots of possibilities. I honestly don't think our son would have gotten a call from his ultimate choice in March two years ago. I think that bridge was built a little later. BUT it WAS the first call he got on July 1.

Bottom line, don't get too high or too low. Lots of road left to travel.

no calls. what makes a difference? How to improve chances of calls by july 1? what if we do not get calls then? face facts?

How about making some calls yourself?

Formulate a schedule for the summer (travel team, showcases) and send it to the schools you are targeting. Its FAR from over!

have sent many letters, resumes etc -and are working on phone calls now-just curious to know what sparks a coach to call a player this march?

There's no easy answer here. 1) this early call period is new...no one is quite sure what it means yet.

2) Your son plays for one of the top HS programs in the country. Have you asked the coach for an honest assessment of his abilities. Look for the truth about his abilities. Knowing what to do with the "truth" is an important step.

3) Assuming #2 is "yes," then are you targeting the colleges that fit that assessment (i.e. D1/D2/D3/JC)?

4) If #2 and #3 are "yes," then stay the course. Plan a good summer schedule as appropriate (targeted correctly) and look forward, not behind.

Just one call but from the school he wanted. They invited him into the dugout after a game. Also told him they saw him pitch last summer and are very interested. I know it is early, but it sure did excite him.

My son received 12 calls. Some expected, some unexpected. All good practice for the July 1 calls. I was proud of how he handled himself and the good questions he asked.
