Douglas High School
EAGLES SOAR OVER FALCONS 2-1
Two of the best pitchers in the state went head to head on the diamond at Douglas High today. The Flanagan Falcons started their ace D.J. Swatscheno and the Douglas Eagles countered with their own in Brandon Holden. Brandon pitched very well allowing only one earned run in seven innings. He struck out 6 batters, scattered 4 hits and walked 3.
The Eagles scored first in the 3rd inning when Danny Kern led off the inning with a single to center. Joey Hage would drive him in with a double to left field.
The Falcons would even the score when Ismanuel DeMoya would take a 3-2 Holden fastball over the center field fence. In the bottom of the 5th inning the Eagles would take the lead back for good when the combination of David Christensen and Sean Ochinko would work their magic like they have for so many years. After fouling off several pitches Christensen was able to reach on a walk. Sean Ochinko would then send a Swatscheno fastball to the wall in left center scoring Christensen from first base, beating out the relay throw home. The Falcons would mount a threat in the top of the seventh inning with men on second and third base and the hot hitting Rolando Gomez at the plate, however Brandon Holden was up to the task and finished off the hot hitter with his sixth and last strikeout of the game.
This was a magnificent High School baseball game with a very large crowd that packed the stands and stood 3 deep down the left and right field lines. The game was broadcast live by Steve Schwartz of
www.sunshinestatebaseball.com and can be heard at
www.floridacast.com . It was also taped for
www.baseballwebtv.com and will be available for viewing in about a week at that new and innovative website.
