At our team meeting last night a parent brought up that batting helmets must now be all matte finishes (no shiny finishes.) This is the first I have heard of this. Does this also apply to catcher's helmets?

The rule doesn't require a matte finish.
It requires a non-glare, non-mirror like surface.
There is a lot of leeway for normal colors and finishes between a matte finish and a finish that throws off a distracting glare or reflection.
It applies both to batting helmets and defensive helmets.
Yeah, they've misunderstood. Some organizations are banning the chrome-finish helmets. They are practically mirrored. I'm sure that's what they were referring to.
That makes sense with that chrome helmet. I was stressing because I just replaced my son's catcher's helmet last fall....I was about to break out the sandpaper.
