Bob15,
I have just returned from opening weekend in Abilene. Funny thing in looking back to last year, I mentioned to my son as he considered where to attend & compete in college, he should seriously consider going to a school much further south than the Texas Panhandle. Needless to say, it was extremely windy & cold for the players in Abilene. It became more obvious why the McMurray team travels for their season openers. This year is California.

After much prayer, my son made his selection, no regrets. HSU it was.

McMurray University:
I have great respect for Asst Coach Dirk Saltzgaber. We first met when his son Ryan and my son Dalton played summer ball at Burkburnett. He invited Dalton to visit and he was a professional host to my son. The baseball facilites are world class for a DIII (better than most DIIs) as their website photos indicate: http://www.mcm.edu/sports/baseball/DriggersField.htm.
I know little of Head Coach Lee Driggers other than to say his McMurray baseball program's year-in, year-out win-loss record indicates he is a very effective leader. I hear he is a no-nonsense Baseball General when it comes to his team. He obviously is very effective at consistently recruiting highly skilled athletes via non-athletic scholarship program.

Hardin-Simmons University:
Having witnessed week-in and week-out how Head Coach Steve Coleman managed my son during his freshman collegiate year, he has my son's, my wife & certainly my full support. He challenged my son to earn his time on the mound, but offered him consistent encouragement along the way. Coach Coleman has challenged him thru self-evaluation & setting his goals high. My son had a high school coach that consistently put him down & tore him down. I have witnessed first hand Coach Coleman's teaching & coaching skills effectively build a player's confidence. His respect of the student athlete (non-athletic scholarship) is a reflection of a successful baseball program at HSU. A program that, without reservation, I am most proud to say my son is a team member. A successful team is not only graded on wins & losses.

Hunter Field is an exceptional baseball field. I enjoy the home games at a high quality collegiate complex. The athletic workout fieldhouse facility is top notch.

There is no comparison to the HSU education. My daughter (duel degree & now a Director of March of Dimes-Abilene) & son-in-law (PT, Coordinator for three retirement centers) both obtained their bachelors via HSU.

I would highly recommend an HSU education to any student. I most respectfully recommend any skilled baseball student athlete consider HSU's Coach Steve Coleman & Asst. Coach Brad Holcomb for their coaches.
Congratulations to both McMurray University & Hardin-Simmons University for qualifying for 2006 post season.
