I think he's yet another great example of a kid who has the upper aspect down but gets very little out of the bottom half. Really nice and smooth, very schooled delivery. In this the fat part of most hs seasons I'd not do much but plan on how to get that incorperated into his delivery over the summer while keeping his timing and posture as solid as it is now. Very obviously he's dominating and having a whole bunch of success so tweaking at this level and quality need to be thought out, measured and watched. I'd make certain he has access and usage of arm health and maintenance materials and get a tripod so you can get as much of this kid on tape as you can.
I don't know jd. I'm no guru, but his lower half looks pretty good to me. The only thing I see is he brings the ball awful close to his ear. Hard to tell with the grainy video. With his numbers, especially as a sophomore, don't know that I'd change much. Tommy Hanson with the Braves does a similar thing with the arm action and he is quite successful.

I'm an anti guru Big Grin

To show you what I mean, I'll use my college sophmore son who also threw mid 80's as a hs sophmore;

The thing I'd point to is that he initiates momentum and loads with the bottom half, the young man here has his bottom half along for the ride. I watch a couple of hundred vids a year and this is almost always the last hurdle a kid has to break out of the 80's.
I also don't want to be misunderstood, this kid is a good looking prospect, changing nothing, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that he could be upper 80's as a senior. My opinion is that he will find it tough with a college pitching load to support that velocity without more out of the bottom half.
Looks like his stride is great but could be losing velocity dropping his back leg after foot strike. Here is a video to show you what I mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp5Hb8h9wlI

He has good balance and a great stride. just a few tweeks is all. I really wouldn't worry about making changes during the season, especially small changes and that is all I see he should make. Great prospect! Good luck!
That kid is going to face a big bunch of poop for falling for that...may not have to move to another state...but Big Grin Oh man I bet his old man gives him endless crud Razz...one of those talked about years later with lots of grins...Glad you got it on film....almost felt sorry for him just standing there with his hands on his hips and nothing..notta..not a thing to say...
