Same with the A's then since they resigned Colon?

Or any other team for that matter that has signed a player who has previously popped positive for PED's?

It is a big attempt to try and win and win now seeing as the other major move they made this week.

Time will tell though if they are looking at a 90+ win season or a 90+ loss season.

Which Melky are they getting? The before or after PED guy? Some columnists say that the 2011 Melky is a good player to have but I tend to think he was already using and just wasn't caught as that's the season he all of a sudden became an above average player. So the Jays might be getting the Melky of the Yankees and Braves who was kind of a fourth outfielder type. We'll just have to see.
He may have been using all along, although it seems that after his disastrous outing with the Braves, desperate measures were called for to save his career and all of a sudden he got much better in 2011. Sometimes you would think that a guy just woke up and started working harder but since he was caught red handed I tend to lump any big jump in skill level with the beginning of his using PEDs. You would hope he would have stopped but some of these guys are not too bright. Right Manny?

It just goes to show you how unimportant being clean really is.

I agree with that. The amount reported (and even the second year) is more than I thought he would get, but they are still paying less than market value for a player in his prime who performed at the level Melky did over the last year-and-a-half (assuming that player was not on PEDs, that is).

They must, however, have some confidence that he can perform at that level without PEDs, in order to commit to him for that much money and years, or else they absolutely don't care whether he goes right back to using, and will cut ties with him immediately if he is caught (I'm sure they'll have some clause in the contract dealing with that).

Either way, I agree with TPM that it really shows the amorality in these matters of those making player acquistion decisions at the MLB level.
