I've mentioned this before, in passing, in some other thread, but thought I'd liven up the 'signees' thread as we await the freshmen signees to come.

Though not a new collegiate player, son is transferring to Menlo College in California. He'll play his junior and senior years as an Oak. They are moving into an NAIA schedule next season, so a good many more games than at last school.

Reasons (all crystal clear in perfect hindsight!):

1) Geography - realized after a couple years that he had no interest in living and working, after graduation, in the first school's part of the country. We have family up and down the west coast, lived in California for many years, love the place, etc. Son was born there and has always liked it; can see himself settling in there for the duration. Best to start the social and career networking now, rather than having to relocate later and start all over again.

2) Academics - though the first school has a sterling academic reputation, he was finding that the school wasn't particularly full-bodied in the specific area he now wants to pursue.

3) etc.

Sometimes the 'perfect fit' is found after learning some things about life....just thankful he was in a position to move on to a better personal situation without sacrificing a year of playability.

fog, we'll be visiting several schools as we undertake our version of National Lampoon's Vacation in August.

Unless Jessup is putting together a baseball program, I don't think there are any NAIA schools close to Sacramento. I do hope to fly back for a week in early April should you wish to make a drive to see a game. Lunch on me!

Congratulations to your son, Krak. I know the Menlo coaches, and have a lot of respect for them. They're a good group, and do a good job with a tough situation (having to recruity quality talent with so many other highly desirable schools in same region). Menlo is a real good college, I hope the whole thing exceeds your son's expectations.
YGD, that would be the Suwanee Boggin' Hole Spring Classic, right? Smile

06, thanks, it is a re-exciting baseball time for him. He spent a couple weeks, when we were still back in Korea this summer, with the Korean National Team pitching coach (who'd never taken on a foreigner before) and the guy was like a surgeon in terms of fine-tuning. Have never seen him throw better than he is right now, so hopefully things will be great baseball-wise. Also looking forward to seeing him rolling on an academic track that he is really fired up about. After all, that's the real goal of the whole experience.
Very, very happy with the coaching staff and the vibe at Menlo.

HS senior son has also committed to go play there next year. Strong academics, good network, great area.

It's a very, very small school (and limited to Business and Psych), and probably not for everyone because of that, but for an overseas kid having to make that initial adjustment back to the States, it's a nice place to hit the ground.
