By now in New York City, there's snow on the ground
And out in California, the sunshine's falling down
And, maybe down in Memphis, Graceland's all in lights
And in Atlanta, Georgia, there's peace on earth tonight
Chorus:
Christmas in Dixie, it's snowin' in the pines
Merry Christmas from Dixie, to everyone tonight
It's windy in Chicago. The kids are out of school
There's magic in Motown. The city's on the move
In Jackson, Mississippi, to Charlotte, Caroline
And all across the nation, it's the peaceful Christmas time
Chorus
And from Fort Payne, Alabama
God bless y'all...We love ya...Happy New Year...Good night
Merry Christmas...Merry Christmas tonight
When I hear this song, and because of the hsbaseballweb’s distinctive southern heritage and sometimes corresponding flavor, I am reminded of many of my friends here and baseball memories.
By now in New York City, there's snow on the ground
And I think about a young man I know about at a New York University working hard to keep playing baseball and his momma. And then I picture beautiful chilly New Hampshire snow covered mountains and a mom with two college athletes. I recall getting a New York Yankees questionnaire for my son in the mailbox.
And out in California, the sunshine's falling down
And I think of bbscout, FBM, URKMB, and how beautiful sunny and warm it is there contrasted against the beauty of the eastern snow in the first line. Then I am reminded of the mountains in Colorado and FrankF’s son on the east coast and that perspective of kids playing far from home. I think about the competitiveness of those California AAU baseball teams my son faced over the years and my son’s college trip to Los Angeles.
And, maybe down in Memphis, Graceland's all in lights.
And I think of those great southern gentleman, Bob, Bama Bomber, and others that first started this tremendous baseball resource. I remember how much fun it was playing in the AAU tournament at Tri Cities and the friendly people, and how beautiful the lakes and mountains are there. A game against East Cobb. And a homerun at that old minor league park near downtown that is not there anymore…..And sitting by a grandfather watching our 16’s play and then the next summer in North Carolina watching our 13’s play.
And in Atlanta, Georgia, there's peace on earth tonight.
Reminds me of Georgia Tech and thru Atlanta on the way to North Carolina for a tournament, my son’s trips to East Cobb, and peace for Dibble.
Florida baseball, Jupiter, Florida, and the WWBA showcases.
Orlando and Tiger Paw Mom.
Christmas in Dixie, it's snowin' in the pines.
I am reminded of that long drive along I-20 in the pines to a college “camp” (really for a tryout) and picture the contrast of that normal climate with the snow falling. I am reminded of the subtleties of college recruiting and how it takes all of our experiences together to help those just starting that journey.
And DukeMom's son at UAB.
It's windy in Chicago. The kids are out of school
Of course, I am reminded of BeenthereIL. Always appreciating his perspective and recalling a game at the Tucson Junior Olympics where my son played third base while he coached the third base box that I have never confessed (big funny talking, dude , dad)…………And all the great Ohio and Illinois debaters and their knowledge of our Texas education systems and the intricacies of our college recruiting techniques.
A Cleveland dad and a Panther Dad.
There's magic in Motown. The city's on the move
I think of grandslamfan’s son and the magicalness of the transition to the “next level”…… on the move……..
Two neat Kentucky moms.......
In Jackson, Mississippi, to Charlotte, Caroline
And all across the nation, it's the peaceful Christmas time
Actually, reminds me of Jackson, Tennessee home of the renowned Fungo and his impact all across the hsbaseballweb nation. And how catcher’s are developed. If the hsbaseballweb was a baseball team, Fungo would be the catcher, wouldn’t he? Think about that perspective a little bit.
And the transition of the hsbaseball web from Tennessee to Minnesota
And from Texas
God bless y'all...We love ya...Happy New Year...
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas tonight
