After playing in Cuba last summer, the USA plays in the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the World Port Tournament in the Netherlands. Team USA also will play host to Japan in the 36th annual series between the two nations’ college all-star teams.

Elkins has been described as "grieving" over the departure over baseball coach Rick Carpenter to Prosper. Carpenter resigned because he believed his wife _ an ISD principal _ was mistreated by superintendent, who is now facing protests by unhappy parents over Carpenter situation and other issues .
Possible early favorites for baseball job are two of Carpenter's former assistants. Jody Albright was an assistant at Elkins for three years before taking the head coaching job at Travis High School, which opened this school year. The Tigers won the district title in junior varsity this season. Richard Thistlethwaite, and assistant coach at Elkins from 2001 to 2004, just finished his third year as head coach at Lamar Consolidated. He led the Mustangs to a 16-12 record and a District 24-4A title this season.
