Umpires quick question, came up today in my game. Kid hits homerun clearly misses first base. Whose call is it? I went to appeal the play BU is heading towards b/c position watching the ball. plate umpire is ruling the ball a homerun. no one has the runner. My appeal went to deaf ears. As, the BU told me it was his call and he watched him hit first base. Why lie to me???????? His back was turned from first base.

BU has the touch of first. A quick turn of the or quick glance is sufficient.
BU was correct, it was his call. He did not want to embarrass himself by pointing out that he did not watch the player. BU must watch the runner unless it's a trouble ball.....the plate umpire takes the runner if the BU goes out for the trouble ball (or HR). Sounds like inexperience to me.
The clue is whether the BU watches the batter/runner when there's a routine fly ball. If he watches the fly then he's not doing his job.
