I know the following survey isn’t about NFHS rules, but assuming OBR does change, the other rule sets generally follow suit, eventually impacting the HS game.
Looking at the results, it is clear that baseball fans are conservative in the technical sense of the word - they think the game is fine as it is now ruled and played.
Almost every significant suggestion for a change in rules was strongly disagreed with. I voted the same way.
I guess its no surprise - baseball fans think the game is OK as is.
The one that jumped out at me was the thing about increasing the size of gloves. What a crock that is, especially if you’ve ever tried to play the field with one of the old style gloves with not even having the fingers laced together.
The thing is, baseball’s changed so much looking for the glory of the offense, the guys they put in the field often just flat out suck! And if they made fielding even easier by increasing the size of gloves, in order to get the bats, you’d soon see guys literally with bushel baskets on their hands!
That got me starting to look at the proposals a little differently, and I ended up seeing that they fell into pretty well defined groups/categories, and one of them was definitely making up for player deficiencies.
